The Spanish champions had hoped that the centre-back would return from a long term knee problem in time for the first leg on August 14th.Puyol underwent surgery in June as a result of knee problems which kept him sidelined for the second half of last season.But although he recently revealed he was hopeful of being fully fit for the start of the new season, according to Marca, he is unlikely to face Los Blancos and could also miss the European Supercup match against Porto on August 26th.The Spain international last month used Twitter to reveal that he felt "no pain" after undergoing some light exercise, and the Catalans had been optimistic of having him available for the start of the new La Liga campaign.Puyol first picked up the injury during a league game against Racing Santander in January and made his return in April against Real Madrid only to suffer a setback. He was then out of action until the Champions League final at Wembley in May, where he made a cameo appearance in the win over Manchester United.......
